Course Description

KINE 245 Animation Practices Semester course; 2 lecture and 4 studio hours. 4 credits. An introduction to the art and practice of animation as a sequential medium. This course will cover the principles of animation, a survey of historical techniques and relevant production methods. There will be an emphasis on viewing and responding to animated work.

This course serves as an introductory journey into the world of animation, focusing on not only on the artistic aspects and practical techniques, but also on the ability to share techniques to one another. This studio course place a lot of emphasis on appreciation of films and experimentation JAM, which provides an environment for a deep experience of animation watching and hands-on trial and error. Our exploration will encompass the boundless realm of experimental animation, including but not limited to: replacement animation, stop-motion animation, hand drawn animation, generated animation, and so on. Beyond the technical "how," we will delve into the deeper "why" of animation, considering its role, potential, and how the material and speak for itself about the meaning.
